Inspired - Jasmine Star

This time of year is really tough for a lot of photographers.  It is the calm before the storm.  It is a time when we panic because we are not as busy as we would like to be and even though the calendars are filling up in the coming months ... at this moment it looks bleak.

I take January and February to work on things that I know I will not have time for in the coming months.  I work on my branding, education, take workshops, learn as much as I can to become a better photographer.  I never want to stand still.  I never want to think that I know everything.

When I evaluate things that I want to learn over the coming year, I almost always come back to wanting to learn from Jasmine Star.  She is self taught and has such a personality and flare for the things in her life.  She continually inspires others...and as she puts it this incredible video, she is Telling Her Own Story.

Tonight I have an online workshop with Crave Photography, next week I'm attending a seminar by the incredible Jerry Ghionis.  So look for a lot of exciting things coming up as I continue to be inspired and continue to grow.

52 Week Project Week 6 {LOVE}

This week's project was LOVE. If you have been reading my blog or my facebook posts ... you will know that I am filled with lots of love this week. I've thought a lot about what my entry would be this week. I chose to break out my macro lens and take a picture of what love is to me. My marriage, my husband, my best friend, my favorite guy in the whole wide world. I love him! To signify this love, i took a series of ring shots of my own wedding ring.

Don't forget to check out Dana's blog and see the other "love" entries

Can you feel the love in the air?  Can you feel how happiness is all around?  No...well move around a little.  It's there!  I promise!  Sometimes, we just need to change our surroundings a little to remember how loved and how blessed we truly are.

It is so very easy to fall into a pit of worry and sadness and start feeling overwhelmed.  For me...I get very overwhelmed by the business of photography.  It is incredibly hard to see so many others who are so very successful and know that in reality...I have only a fraction of the business they have.  It's overwhelming some days to wonder if it is truly going to "happen" for me.  Will I be able to take this business and grow it and become what the world considers successful?

Sometimes, you have to change your surroundings and your ways of thinking.  For me, I have to step back and realize that while I am not as busy as I would like to be I have grown my business each year.  I have made relationships that have grown me as a photographer as well as a person.  I know that one day, I will look back and be completely blown away by what I have accomplished.

So...can you feel the love?  Can you feel the truly amazing things that are in your life and pushing you to be a better person?

A couple of years ago I came across a woman who truly inspired me to use photography in a way that wasn't about "me".  Sometimes when we are so focused on how can I grow my business or how can I make more money...we forget that we have the power and ability to truly affect someone else's life.

Kristen Weaver started a project called Images For A Cure two years ago.  I was one of the original photographers that participated.  It was shortly after I decided that I wanted MaddiePie Creations to be my own little business.  This year I was not able to participate due to some personal medical issues - however, it has been amazing to watch the things that she has accomplished since starting this project.  Kristen inspires me to remember that I have the ability to truly change someone's life with a simple thing like a picture.

I have the ability to capture a moment in time that might otherwise be forgotten.

So take a few moments today and think about how truly loved you are.  I know one thing...if you are reading this...you are loved by me!

Inspired

I look to many things to get inspired.  A pretty picture, a song, a commercial, a magazine article...the list goes on and on.  In today's world, we have an unlimited amount of resources at our fingertips that have the ability to inspire and educate us.

One of my favorite places to go is The Maternal Lens  This website is a group of ladies that have come together and been blessed to offer a wide array of information and inspiration to photographers everywhere.  Today I spent over an hour just looking at images on their blog and reading blog posts from other photographers.

What a great way to run your business...sharing your passion with others.  The ladies of The Maternal Lens inspire me and constantly give me ideas that spark ideas in my photography and in my life.

So...Thank you!  Thank you for sharing your passion, your thoughts, and your friendships with us.

Oh, and here's a couple of quick images from the Boudoir Day we did a few weeks ago.  The ladies that attended were beyond beautiful and I am proud to say that I am friends with them as well!

Much Love!

I Heart Faces {HEART}

It's the month of Love!!  This week's challenge over at I Heart Faces is HEART.

It's fun when you stop to think about how you can tell someone you love them.  A few weeks ago, I had a fun boudoir session with a group of girls.  One of them brought along this sweet sign.  I love the effect we achieved with the lights and the dept of field.

Don't forget to head over and check out some of the other really sweet ways to incorporate HEARTS into your pictures!  I HEART FACES

Much Love

52 Week Project - Week 4 {COLD}

So here's a funny little fact about me...tell me I HAVE to do something, and I will immediately go into a weird mode that my brain refuses to do anything remotely related to what i am supposed to be doing.  I am probably one of the worlds worst procrastinators...notice there is no week 2 or 3.  What can I say?  Absolutely nothing.

However, I'm picking back up with week 4...a day late.  Really, there is no excuse.  My brain has a minor malfunction.

This week's project was COLD.  There is a crazy winter storm that has affected over 1/2 of the US.  My hometown (Tulsa) received 21 inches of snow this week.  Texas...we received probably an inch of ice and a dusting of snow.  So everything is shut down which has caused me to go into MAJOR hibernation mode. My kids are now going on there 3rd day of no school.

The air is so cold and the wind is blowing so hard, it is truly painful to be outside.  My kids...know nothing different that it is time to go outside and play. Why?  Because it's a snow day...duh!

So my entry for cold is my daughter as she is bundled up inside a blanket.  What you can't see is that she also has on: leggings, a pair of socks, a pair of jeans, a tshirt, a sweatshirt, a coat, gloves, scarf and a hat underneath the hood of her coat.  And then after all of that...she complained because her hands hurt from the cold.

And then she asked if she could go back outside 30 minutes later.

Don't forget to check out Dana's blog and the contest.  Maybe there will be others that are a little more on top of things than I am.

Much Love
Brooke
